Adinkra Design Series
The Adinkra Design Series explores the symbolic language of Akan culture through contemporary abstraction. Inspired by traditional Adinkra symbols, these works transform cultural motifs into dynamic compositions of line, shape, and rhythm. By layering geometric forms, circular patterns, and earth-toned palettes, the series reimagines ancestral symbols as living visual languages that continue to evolve across time and place.
Drawing from my Ghanaian heritage, each painting reflects an interest in memory, identity, and cultural continuity. Rather than illustrating specific narratives, the works invite viewers to engage with the symbolism, movement, and interconnected forms that have long served as vessels for wisdom, values, and shared histories.
Through abstraction, the series celebrates the enduring relevance of African design traditions while creating new conversations between heritage and contemporary art.
