about the Artist
My work explores migration as both a physical journey and an emotional condition—one shaped by memory, distance, and transformation. Rooted in my experience between Ghana and the United States, I investigate what it means to exist within a “third culture,” where identity is continuously negotiated rather than fixed.
Through layered compositions, textured surfaces, and altered portraiture, I create figures that feel both familiar and obscured. Faces are often masked, fragmented, or abstracted, reflecting the complexities of assimilation, cultural inheritance, and belonging. Materials such as clay foam introduce a sculptural dimension, allowing the surface itself to carry weight—both physically and conceptually—like history embedded in the body.
Textiles, patterns, and references to African cloth act as visual anchors, connecting past and present while questioning how cultural identity is preserved, translated, or lost over time. My work invites viewers to consider how memory travels, how identity shifts across borders, and how we reconstruct a sense of home from fragments.
Ultimately, these pieces are not just about displacement, but about creation—the emergence of new cultural forms born from movement, resilience, and adaptation.
